Martyr’s Day or Shaheed Diwas 2022

Shaheedi Diwas

It is observed in India on several dates. 23rd March is remembered as the day when three brave freedom fighters namely Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar were hanged.

Bhagat Singh was just 23 years old when he was hanged but his revolutionary ideas were very broad. Not only his ideas inspire millions of Indian youth, but also his thoughts guide the youth of India even in present times.

Bhagat Singh considered the British Rule in India as immoral, unjustifiable and wicked. He wanted an uncompromising struggle for freedom. But freedom of the country was only the first step to wider freedom for the majority of people-workers and peasants. Their exploitation he wanted to see ended. This was to be his ultimate goal. He wanted a party comprising the discipline, hard working, dedicated and uncompromising young men

This day has a very important significance in the Indian freedom struggle.

On this day, in India, Schools and colleges conducts various activities including poetry, speech or drama to pay tribute as well as to salute the revolutionaries who were not deterred even in the face of death.

They were hanged for the killing of John P Saunders, a British police officer. Although they were killed by the British raj but their ideas, patriotic feeling, and sacrifice cannot be forgotten.
